What are hormones?

Hormones are chemicals produced by glands and released by them into the bloodstream. They transmit messages through the nervous system and target specific cells. Hormones affect almost every part of the body, especially communication and growth. Hormones are naturally occurring chemicals that control growth and reproduction. In 1947, a German chemist named Otto Loewi discovered testosterone while testing urine for salts, and in 1950, he modified his research to work with esters. Still, it took until 1957 before testosterone was available in a pharmaceutical firm. Testosterone and baldness are often thought of as being directly related. Testosterone is, after all, the hormone that drives many of the physical changes that occur during puberty, including the growth of facial and body hair.

This can happen when there are high levels of leptin in the body, but the brain is not receiving the signal.
  • Oxytocin is a hormone that is secreted by the pituitary gland. It is involved in social bonding, sexual reproduction, and childbirth. Oxytocin is also a stress hormone that can help to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
  • Norepinephrine is a hormone that is released by the body in response to stress. It is responsible for the “fight or flight” response, which is the body’s natural reaction to a perceived threat.

Which body do tissues make hormones in?

Hormones are chemical signals that tell the body what to do. During puberty, hormones are produced and circulate throughout the body.
